Nursing Pipeline Program

The purpose of the CSUCI Nursing Pipeline Program (NPP) is to provide a consistent stream of prepared, qualified and culturally diverse students applying to the CSUCI BSN Program and other healthcare related educational programs.  The CSUCI NPP will collaborate with local partners, operate year round to include a variety of support services for CSUCI NPP participants and their families throughout the senior year of high school.

  • Upon completion of the program, graduates will demonstrate academic  preparation with a hands on understanding of the challenges of the nursing profession; at the same time, making them ideal nursing program candidates.
  • The CSUCI NPP is designed to encourage student exploration of health care careers with an emphasis on the nursing profession.

The CSUCI NPP will include the following components:

  • 5-week intensive Summer program
  • 3 unit college GE course
  • On-going Academic Preparation
  • Health Care Exposure
  • CSUCI Diversity Speaker Series
  • Financial Aid and College Application Assistance
  • Community Service and Service Learning
  • Campus Tours
  • CSUCI NPP Alumni will be offered scholarship opportunities that provide significant support toward completing their college degrees

The CSUCI NPP partners with several organizations including, Educational Talent Search (ETS), The Coastal Alliance United for Sustainable Economy (CAUSE), Oxnard City Corps, Pacifica High School Health Science Academy, and Oxnard Community College.  All partners will be used for their expertise in improvement of program design, goals and outcomes.

The Development of the CSUCI NPP will allow the University and community the opportunity to locally address an important aspect of the nursing shortage through targeted preparation for qualified nursing program applicants and the cultural diversification of the CSUCI BSN Program.  Through collaborative partnerships, the program will positively impact other regional cultural health care issues, such as working to dissolve the seemingly cultural-based resistance to seeking health care, extending general health care information to the community at large, and providing a positive experience that may motivate and assist students to actively pursue a nursing career preperation pathway.
